Born and raised in Chalk River and Orleans, Ontario, Doug began his 39 year career in the fire service with the Cumberland Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter in 1978. He later became a full time firefighter in Kanata in 1984.
Doug served as an executive member of the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs and the Ontario Municipal Management Institute and was involved in leading various legislative and professional development programs in those organizations. He has served in the fire service as a chief officer in Deep River, Peterborough, Cambridge, Severn, and the Office of the Fire Marshal.
Serving the community and the “Other” is one of Doug’s passions. He has been a United Way volunteer for the past 11 years and is also involved with the Renfrew County United Way. Doug works at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories as the Fire Protection Program Authority. He is an active lay preacher and a member of the editorial board for the North Renfrew Times newspaper.
Doug is enrolled in the religious studies degree program at University of Waterloo. He also has a BSc Biology (Hons) and a BA law degree from Carleton University. He and his wife Jeannie, a professional librarian, live in Chalk River.
